Microsoft Licence Program Select Plus Academic (EDU) - Windows Virtual Desktop Access

Product Information

Windows VDA
VDA enables organizations to license virtual copies of Windows client operating systems in virtual environments.

Licensing VDA:

Licensing of the virtual Windows desktop operating system - Virtual Desktop Access (VDA)

Thanks to the Software Assurance Service VDA, companies that have licensed the Windows client under Software Assurance can access a virtual desktop operating system without the need for an additional licence for the virtual Windows desktop operating system.

If companies use thin clients or rich clients that have not licensed a Windows desktop operating system under Software Assurance, you can also purchase a subscription for the access licence to a virtual Windows desktop operating system (Windows VDA licence) for a fee.

Added value when purchasing a Windows VDA subscription:

  • Flexible: Windows VDA is very flexible, so this licence can also be assigned to a device owned by a non-affiliated third party, such as a contractor or a PC owned by an employee.
  • Temporary: Windows VDA is a subscription licence, i.e. the right to access a virtual Windows desktop operating system ends when the subscription expires.
  • Synchronous: Like a licence for the Windows desktop operating system, Windows VDA is always assigned to a specific device.

Regardless of whether a customer receives Windows VDA rights because he:

  • licensed their PC for the Windows desktop operating system with Software Assurance or
  • has licensed a Windows VDA subscription,

In both cases, the following usage rights apply for access to a virtual desktop operating system:

  • Windows can be installed on virtual machines in all possible combinations of hardware and storage.
  • The virtual machines can be moved between servers and storages without restriction.
  • The main user of a Windows VDA device is granted extended roaming use rights, i.e. the virtual desktop can be accessed from any device outside the company, such as a private home PC or a computer in an Internet café.
  • Windows VDA includes Software Assurance (SA) services, such as 24x7 technical support, training vouchers or rights to the Windows Enterprise premium edition.
  • There is also the right to license products that are exclusively available to Software Assurance customers, such as MDOP (Microsoft Desktop Optimisation Pack).
  • A Windows VDA licence allows concurrent use of up to four virtual machines.
  • The Windows VDA licence can be assigned to a new computer after 90 days or if the hardware fails permanently due to a fault.
  • The dynamic use of virtual desktops is supported by KMS/MAK volume activation.
  • Unlimited backups for running and stored VMs.
