Device/User CAL:

What's the difference between Device CAL and User CAL?

Device CALs and User CALs differ in the following main points:

  • A Device CAL grants any number of users the access to the server software of a customer from a dedicated device.
  • A User CAL grants a dedicated user the access to the server software of a customer from any number of devices.
  • So a User CAL grants one dedicated user the access to the server software by any computer, notebook, PDA or any other device in the office as well as at home. The Device CAL makes sense for users which access to the server software through one chared device.
