Software Assurance is not bound to a special version. You have the right, during the term of validity of your Microsoft Select contract, to use the respective latest version. That means you cannot only gain the latest version by buying Software Asurance but any other which will be available within your term of contract.
The prices for Software Assurance refer always to the remaining term of your Microsoft Select contract.

Please note that Software Assurance may only be purchased retroactively for licenses without Software Assurance for 30 days after the purchase of the license. After the 30 days are over, this is no longer possible. Software Assurance has a duration of 25 to 36 months, depending on the effective date of your contract. For more detailed information, please contact us. You can also use Software Assurance to renew an expiring Software Assurance. Please note that a renewal can be purchased at the earliest one month before expiration and at the latest one month after expiration. If your Software Assurance has expired for more than thirty days, you will need to purchase new licenses if new versions or Software Assurance is required.
